Extension Bureau offers assistance with Census forms

The United States Census Bureau administers the Census every 10 years. However, one of the biggest challenges of the Census is making sure that all people are counted.

There are different reasons why some people are more difficult to count that others, including an unstable home, no access to the Internet and a distrust in the government.

The Pike County Extension Office is offering assistance to those who need or want assistance in filing out the Census 2020, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Extension Office at 306 South Three Notch Street in downtown Troy,

“All COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, and assistance will be provided, as well as an incentive to each citizen that comes to the office to complete the Census,” said Abby Peters, Pike County Extension Coordinator.

To assist those who may not be able to come into the office, Peters will be in Goshen and Brundidge next week for Census completion.

Peters will be at Goshen Town Hall on Tuesday, August 11, and in Brundidge at Brundidge City Hall on Thursday, August 13. Times will be from noon until 4 p.m. at both sites.

“A laptop will be available for citizens to complete their Census forms, Peters said.

“For the protection of those participating in the Census, the laptops will be properly sanitized after each use. Masks must be worn and social distancing will be practiced at all times.

“The Pike County Extension Office encourages those who need assistance with Census 2020 to visit our office or join us in Goshen or Brundidge next week. It is very important that every person is counted in Census 2020. That determines the federal dollars that come to our county and cities for much needed resources, including education and highways.”

Peters said, as of July 31, 2020 Pike County’s 2020 Census Response Rate is 48.6 percent.

Those who have questions or need assistance completing Census 2020, are encouraged call the Pike County Extension Office at 334-566-0985.
